Work and Holiday Visa (subclass 462)
Your Second Work and Holiday Visa
To be eligible for the second Work and Holiday Visa you must:
- hold a valid passport from an eligible country (list).
- be between 18 to 30 years old inclusive.
- must have completed at least 3 months of specified subclass 462 work in northern and specific areas while holding your first Work and Holiday visa.
- not be accompanied by any dependent (ex: children).
Duration:
-You are in Australia on your first Work and Holiday Visa or a bridging visa granted after the first visa expired: The visa is valid 12 months from the date the first visa expired.
-You are in Australia on a different visa: The visa is valid 12 months from the date it is granted.
-You are outside Australia: You must enter Australia no later than 12 months from the date the visa is granted. It is activated and valid 12 months from the date you enter Australia.
Work/Study Conditions:
Like the first Work and Holiday Visa, the second Work and Holiday Visa lets you study for up to 4 months (17 weeks) and usually work for up to 6 months with one employer.
The 6 months work limitation resets when you are granted a second visa which means that you can work another 6 months with the employer you worked for on your first visa.
If you work, tax will be withheld from your pay. As a work and holiday maker, you are not a “resident for tax purposes”, therefore the first $37,000 of your income is taxed at 15% and the balance is taxed at ordinary rates.
If you are eligible, your employer also has to pay superannuation for you.
When you leave Australia, you can apply to have your super paid to you as a Departing Australia Superannuation Payment (DASP), a tax of 65% is applied.
Financial requirement:
You must have enough money to support yourself while you are in Australia. This is usually about AUD5,000 for your initial stay, plus the fare to where you are going after leaving Australia.
Health insurance:
Unless your home country has a reciprocal healthcare agreement with Australia, it is highly recommended to have a health insurance as you are personally liable for all your healthcare costs.
Processing time:
75% of applications in 15 days, 90% of applications in 35 days (DoHA source from 01/08/2019) to get the last stat click here
